It is probably the best book written in the entire XX century if you understand it.

no that would be in search of lost time
100 years of solitude is probably like the 9th best book of the XX century

How can someone possibly not understand it? It’s just a little book rooted in folkloric, popular storytelling

>It’s just a little book rooted in folkloric, popular storytelling
>Not understanding Marquez is making a parody out of this through half of the book
>Completly ignoring the entire point of the book which is in the fucking title (how people cope with solitude)

Folkloric storytelling is not below self-parody or deeper concerns. Garcia Marquez would not even agree with you, you pretentious little brainlet. Imagine thinking you’re smart for “understanding” one of the most popular books from the past century, and perhaps the most well-known writer among Latin Americans. Also I am not the person who claimed the book sucked. I like it

Anon don't you realize he mocks the entire creation myth by creating an Adanic figure who is a brutish retard that can't name basic things and that believes basic technology is magic because he is a rural retard that has done nothing with his life but have cock fights, kill a neighbor and run away from his sins? Obviously he uses the themes as an aesthetic form but the entire first chapter is just a mockery of pseuds that try to make it about a Rousseaurian original paradise when in reality he is sugar coating a creation story that in simple terms is incredibly mundane and far from idilic.
This is just the first chapter, but he keeps mocking parts of Latin American culture such as politics all throughout the book

Good post, I think you should probably have mentioned the circumstances of the era it was written, Marquez was (understandably) turbo-butthurt by the dictators and juntas that infested Latin and South America like flies at the time and is constantly dunking on the phenomenon. I'm guessing you meant this to be included in politics, but IMO it's worth highlighting because it was such a big part of the mental/social environment of the day.

>turbo-butthurt by the dictators
Dictators were polititians back then. Notice how when they shoot them they shout
>Long live the liberal party
As they are only fighting for a political party to rule, not for the country to get better. The book has a lot of little details which are easy to skip if you don't pay attention
