It comes in waves because we all adore Dostoyevsky more and more as we get older, but we take it for granted that everyone else understands how good he is, so we naturally lay off for a while.

Its almost too on the nose for me. I read it last summer during the George Floyd riots and it was depressing.

Its creepy how the older generation in Demons are very similar to American boomers - denigrate their own country to seem worldly, flout traditions and act like they are above caring while not stopping to think about the implications of what that really means. Then having children brought up in that environment who don't know any better, believe their boomer nonsense wholeheartedly and then get pissed at their limp dicked parents for not taking their own ideals seriously.
