Is this not a good practice? Because I've outlined several characters for my novel. Tell me if it's cringe:
>protag is Lisa Witherspoon, she loves soup and cereal
>antag is Daniel Reno, he loves gambling
>protag's sister is named Angelica Satanic, is a conflicted character
>detective who is pursuing antagonist is named Robert Deducion

People had smaller feet in those days and shoes looked weird, 3-5 sizes smaller on average than today. (usually to do with the sole, but the uppers follow from that.) And a smaller foot was ideal, a gentleman in those days would 'present his leg' and a 'well turned' leg was desireable. This sounds like insane satire but it's true. It's equivalent to how we look at a woman's whole figure.

There's all sorts of info on it here and there, and it was highly sexualised (as such, a great deal of it was insinuated--there's a novel from the 18th century called A Spy on Mother Midnight, where women are discussing men's legs with the innuendo that it's evidence of endowment.) Ben Franklin wrote about a friend using how people regarded his legs as a sign of their chatacter: "he for that purpose made use of his Legs; one of which was remarkably handsome, the other by some Accident crooked and deform’d. If a Stranger at the first Interview, regarded his ugly Leg more than his handsome one, he doubted him." Any injury or loss of leg was likened to castration or vice versa (Uncle Toby's lame leg is used to indicate his mangled genitals in Tristram Shandy.) Men presented it to people they just met, somewhat caricaturised in pic related, but that's after men had moved to plain suits and stopped trying to look outwardly attractive (great male renunciation).
