I am finding it to be resourceful as far as thoughts but i have not taken any action to change i also do not feel like i have learned much if anything about Buddhism it's a collection of talks and metaphors essentially any laymen to religion can crack it open although many poo terms will confuse you but are not really needed

As far as the nikayas are concerned they are not a systematic presentation of any "Buddhism." They are just a series of sermons preserved by mnemonic aid. Attempting to read them cover to cover is a sub-optimal method if you are interested in say, the philosophies of later Buddhist schools, moreso than Buddhist soteriology or ethics both of which are readily obvious from the nikayas (ie. precepts, satipathana, jñanas, etc.). But they are the foundation of those later philosophies. Ultimately the texts are connected but this will not be obvious unless you are willing to spend years on it.

Books won't help you meditate, that's a thing you learn with practice and routine, but good books for beginners in Buddhism are the Dhammapada and the Four Noble Truths/Noble Eightfold Path
Other than that I also suggest reading H.H.'s Siddharta, it's fiction but it manages to put buddhist/spiritual concepts in a way that is digestible and good to read for people who aren't into the subject.
