Cat Person by Karen Roupian or however you spell her name. It was a short story in The New Yorker four? years ago. It turns out Karen or was it Kate? wrote it about real people. She basically heard this story from grad students at the college she went to and turned it word for word into her story. The guy the story is based off of ending up committing suicide later a year or two after the story got big. The girl it was about wrote an article this summer talking about how she was the real subject of the story and that Karen/Kate never asked her permission to publish something like that.

There's also a good short story on n+1 about a "Nice Guy" or "Male Feminist" who gets so mad he can't get girls by doing all the things women tell guys they should do to be good human beings that he goes into a coffee shop and commits a mass shooting in incel rage. This one was written by a gay asian man as satire.

Sorry he didn't kill himself, he just died unexpectedly. Though how he died the girl didn't reveal. I don't remember really. I just remember he died. You'll have to read the article the girl wrote in response to Cat Person being about her.

The main reason the girl wrote the response I think was partly because the guy died, and two because the guy wasn't a piece of shit like he was portrayed in Cat Person. You have to remember Cat Person was written to leech off of the #MeToo movement. It's the main reason why it got so popular.

the n+1 story was great and it was a lot of fun reading it with people here when it came out. the Cat Person thing doesn’t make sense to me because i wasn’t able to discern a distinct plot in the story, just someone dating a kind of frumpy guy and later regretting it. i just remember it being horribly written and another one of those things that makes you feel like we’re living in a decadent hellish time.
