Yeah I read House of Memes. That and Call of the Crocodile are by far the ones /lit/ suggests the most so far. I think it’s largely because of the overall aesthetics of those two. Still great choices. Thanks anon.

Why can't people just accept that Call of the Crocodile is a good book? We should be proud of Gardner not this petty jealousy crap. We have a real respectable author here with us.

Lovecraft is literally October: The Writer.
Disregard his spooky monsters, and just savor his prose of describing creaky old New England towns.

>> No.19108887

>>19108844
Crab in bucket mentality. Plus a lot of posters on here are women.

>> No.19108895

Call of the Crocodile is insanely good. Probably the best book I read this year desu

>> No.19108956

>>19108745
John dies at the end is scary? I thought it was sci-fi.

>> No.19108970

>>19108956
Yeah it's scary but also very funny. Def not sci-fi. A little bit at the end but it's designed to be more horror. Organic computers and hallucinatory mass sacrifices.

Well yea. Call of the Crocodile takes place almost all on Halloween.

The Shadow at the Bottom of the World by Ligotti

The tense changes are explained later in the book but that is a spoiler. Gardner is shockingly clever.

Is the Johnny Depp movie of this the best one

>> No.19109286

Algernon Blackwood is pretty Halloweencore. The Willows is usually cited as his signature story, along with The Wendigo. The Lost Valley is great too.

>> No.19109332

>>19108711
Read a book called demons by fyodor dostoevsky :) spooky

>> No.19109370

>>19108711
A Night In Lonesome October.
Each chapter is a day in the month, with a bunch of cat and mouse between various characters building to a big ritual on Halloween.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is good for right now, like getting into a halloween mood/season.

Incidentally reading this right now. Good pre-Lovecraft cosmic horror.
