Picrel is probably the single most important work to what DFW became as an author. Fairly interesting to see how much it influenced IJ, well worth a read.

There is a fair amount of parallel in some of the use in footnotes (endnotes in DFWs case) and the dealing with minute. Almost certainly had an influence.

Excuse me I think I am one of the pseuds you are referring and I'm not a pseud. I have read way more McCullers and I am more familiar with her writing and I am more qualified to talk about her than you so don't go talking down to me as if your smarter because you made a thread on /lit/.

And I remember your shit thread, you posted some shallow unoriginal take about McCullers being 'melodramatic' without substantiation, then you abandoned the thread and didn't engage in any of the discussion. The faggot I was arguing posted an equally useless take but it was also blatantly wrong so called him out on it. I don't remember you ever contributing any discussion at all in the thread or even attempting to expand on your boring shit take, so don't call me a pseud ever again you retarded faggot because I put more effort into your own thread than you did.

That's funny anon. You shouldn't fall in love with people that have been dead for fifty years. Or random women online.
Are you making threads like this because you thought it was funny or because it made you angry?

I found this part melodramatic. There I said it. I also found Willie's story to be the same as well as unnecessary for the plot. The story is special because of the time it was written and the fact that it was her first piece of work.

Why is that melodramatic? Self-harm is a common response to overstimulation and stress, I don't think it was melodramatic or out of place for Mick particularly given how young she was.

>Willie's story to be the same as well as unnecessary for the plot.

The main black character, Dr Copeland was a respected upstanding and educated member of the community, Willy was not. That plot line served to show the consequences of racism for black people who were poor and powerless and I feel like it was necessary to create a sincere picture of race relations in America at the time because not every black men was treated as well as Dr Copeland.

>> No.19110999

>>19110939
I don't think it's a propper response for her in general and she did it after the energetic night where she would be tired and calmed down. This is not so bad. I think the Willie story is too much. It drops a lot of subtly she used before. Especially compared with Mick and Harry. I think the negro murders in the background showed it much better than Willie reenacting footloose did. It was in the background and no one really cared even Copeland. That and the death from disease would have worked as a catalyst too. I think.
Bubber blasting Baby's face off was out there as well, but I think was done in a necessary way.

WOuld your hero really appreciate this? Maybe you should take a page out of her playbook by getting drunk and having seizure.

I stand by the part with Mick because I think it makes her a lot more vulnerable as a charter but I agree with you with Willy, it probably could have been done a little better. I liked the book for Mick and Biff mainly though, I never much related to Dr Copeland or black people so if that part of the novel lacked finesse it doesn't really bother me too much anyway.

>Willie reenacting footloose

I have seen people say this but I don't know what footloose is, I googled it as well but nothing came up lol.
