So I read quite a lot, even by /lit/ standards (especially by /lit/ standards), but written word doesn't cause any emotional response from me. Take for example films or even mangas: they clutch me, I get invested, character dies - it can shook me. But this doesn't happen with books. Of course visual media are different than reading and of course there are works that can really touch me in some meaningful way. But I really wish I could read books like teenage girls read YA novels, just fucking cheering characters and all that, not just sit there unaffected. Or is it just normal and i'm retarded?

Fuck novels, start reading poetry

During the deep silence of midnight start reciting Pessoa's poems in low to medium voice and really let those words sink into your brain. Repeat a line again if you're getting distracted, use your full awareness and just let those words sink in. If there is "spiritual" experience in the world then this is what will happen or least happened with me.
