>any single Hispanic country is garbage
not true btw :^)
why does everything have to turn into a contest though? There are certain literary traditions which trying to compare is useless. Hispanic literatures are all more vast and better than Angloids will give them credit for. It's not just one or two exceptional writers by country, but whole intertwined traditions filled with authors any other literature would like to have. If they're not recognized it has to do more with the "politics" of literature and the little cultural prestige Spanish has.
At the same time, English-language literature is amazing and much more better than butthurt and resented Spics will ever admit.
Both of you end up with a provincial view of literature. Your loss.

That's not it though, the list is missing a ton of high-quality writers. Just like you could pull a better list from 4 or 5 nations in Europe one could pull up a better list from the individual countries that speak Spanish. That you don't know the writers outside Cervantes does not speak to their quality, but to your ignorance, insularity and unwillingness to actually read outside the same 100 books /lit/ tells you to read.
>>19086731
Quevedo is not a dramatist, but yeah, you're right. It wasn't like that before though. Someone like Calderón de la Barca used to be widely read and respected. Juan Ruiz de Alarcón influenced, for example, French theatre. I don't know whether Lope was ever read very much outside the Hispanic world, though. Either way, that they're not read does not mean they're bad.

I'm surprised more people don't hold the same opinion lol. I like him though. I can't speak much of his plays because I'm not as a good reader of plays as I am of other genres –he definitely is worse than Calderón, though–, but the few poems I've read of him have all been really, really good.
