I think I asked this in the last thread but got no response, although I've seen the image so I know someone has it.
It was a 4chan post about how most normal people don't need to self improve, and the people that have to self-improve to do something are pathetic. That got posted on twitter and had a stupid response that referenced Heidegger or Wittgenstein or someone like that, and mentioned a concept about tools. A screenshot of the twitter post was posted to /lit/ around 4-5 months ago, and some anon made a very funny and long response in the thread replies, and then someone screenshotted that.

The response isn't much better. Firstly, as you know, Heidegger's fundamental analysis of Dasein as Being-in-the-World has a tripartite structure: World (Welt), Self (Selbst) and Being-in (In-Sein). The distinction between zuhanden/vorhanden simply isn't relevant when it comes to social relations, it's a subset of the analysis of the Weltlichkeit-der-Welt and not of Mitsein (which would be the relevant category in the given example). Secondly, Heidegger isn't trying to make a "point about authenticity" and he isn't "critiquing das Man." Being and Time isn't an ethics, it purports to be a work of fundamental ontology. He's not making the value judgement that authenticity is good and that inauthenticity is bad, he's merely pointing out two possibilities of the Self as Being-with.

I don't know what you mean. It's a technical term, the German word is Eigentlichkeit (one of Heidegger's neologisms), and authenticity isn't an optimal translation. It's kind of a pun implying both eigentlich and eigen. But yes, authenticity is relevant for his project in that it opens up for anxiety and being-towards-death, and then ultimately for understanding Dasein as Care (Sorge).

John David, buddy, no one cares about your mediocre book or your mediocre personality. No one cares how hard you worked on it, because that isn't how life works. And the first few pages of People Mover was filled with hollow description and painfully contrived dialogue, with a premise ripped straight from a teenager's daydreams or some 20-something single mom's "wanderlust" photo album on instagram. No one is going to shill for you just because you happen to post on /lit/. Sidenote: why is that the go-to line for hack writers on 4chan when they try to shill for themselves? This isn't an underdog sports team or a summer camp, so what is this bizarre expectation that everyone on /lit/ is going to rally the banners whenever some mediocre failure comes along with a sockpuppet like "Well, sure, it's need editing pretty bad and it's not very interesting, but he posts here so we should all support him!"

Everyone can tell you made this meme yourself, even though you're referring to yourself in the third person, because it demonstrates the exact same lack of self-awareness and humor as your bland fiction. This meme works by being sarcastic. IE the "Chad" version is meant to be a way over the top reaction to the "Virgin" version, and the virgin version is supposed to be a normal person who is described as awkward to make the viewer feel self-conscious about normal behavior. It's not meant to be an earnest attempt to compare two different subjects. Go do something else.

Gardner was an outlier. An irregularity that probably can’t be repeated. It seemed to only work for Call of the Crocodile. His other books are not memes as much. The distinction is that F Gardner actually bought 4chan ads so he obviously got more widespread appeal. Waldun did it with him Youtube Channel. These are both irregularities which broke the normal rules and resulted in meme status.
