What the FUCK was Edith's problem?

>> No.19040194

Stoner raped her.

Bought up almost completely sheltered from the real world by her rich parents. Plus some women just have a screw loose. It happens pretty often in my family, not sure why that is though.

Possibly abused by her father. Latched onto the first guy she could find as a way to get out. No emotional connexions to Stoner. Thought having a daughter would give her life meaning. When that did not work, attempted to make her life's goal spiting hear husband.
It's easier to name things that weren't Edith's problems.

>> No.19041021

>Edith about to have a wonderful trip around Europe
>Stoner forces her to marry him, rapes her and cheats on her
What the FUCK was Stoner's problem?

She was raped by her father too

Was this really implied or did I miss something?

>> No.19043888

God you faggots are insufferable. You even simp for fictional women when they act like women.
There is absolutely ZERO evidence (0) that her father did anything to her, so shut the fuck up.

>forces
>rapes
granted he does cheat but at that point it's based. anyway shut up and go away FOREVER, Stacy

>> No.19044864

>>19043888
It's definitely implied, and in rich families gross shit like that happens all the time

>> No.19044870

>forces her to marry him
Stoner politely asks and she could have told him no thank you any time, but sje didn't because she has some kind of victim complex

>rapes her
She could have said no thank you at any point but didn't. Stoner, being a virgin, assumed consent as he should, because marital rape was an unknown concept in those days

>cheats on her
Thats only long after she has driven him away and been nothing but a psycho bitch, so good for him.

Hit me with the implications.

>> No.19045199

She did say no and he raped her anyway
>>19045107
I got the impression by reading between the lines. Her childlike behavior at home and her weird relationship with her father, plus her sexual repression that it talked about extensively when they got married

>> No.19045210

>>19044870
>husband cheating on his wife is a good thing if the wife was being mean to him
Fuck off, marriage is a sacred covenant created by God. Stop trying to defile it

>> No.19045780

I figured she was gay

>> No.19045840

What the fuck was Lomax's problem though, besides being a gimp?

>> No.19045856

I don't believe in the idea that she was raped by him. She could run any time, but she has chosen to purposefully make his life a misery.

>> No.19045932

Edith's "problem," or rather, her destructive influence on Stoner and his daughter, was primarily Stoner's problem. It's made abundantly clear throughout the book that Stoner's passivity and lack of passion for anything outside his career is his own undoing. It isn't fucking subtle. The only power Edith ever had over Stoner was the power he permitted her. Jesus Christ, it's amazing how much of a midwit magnet this book is. No wonder it's become so popular here.
