Is there any way to objectively measure how 'soulful' something is? Literature on this topic?

I guess you could read about aesthetic theory.

"Soul" as used on here generally means nothing more than "I grew up with it". I've seen zoomers on here praise stuff that was considered forgettable by everyone my age I know, and talk about how it's SO much better than whatever the latest culture industry product is.
Today's soulless will become tomorrow's soul. The only way to escape the cycle is to stop circlejerking with your reactionary channer friends. Personally I haven't found >>19026124 very worthwhile since it seems to generally conclude that what old academic farts like is soul, and what kids these days like is soulless. Then after some 50 years everyone concludes that the old soulless was good; this happened with Neuromancer and Tolkien, for example.
Basically avoid insularity, that's the common denominator here.

When people feel SOUL they project feelings of attachment or nostalgia. When something exudes SOUL, it has a level of creative distinction and charm.

Old Kool-aid advert- SOUL, due to collective nostalgia.

[Well liked indie game]- SOUL, as it is usually free to experiment beyond the creative restrictions of a corp.

This is the only answer

if you could objectively measure it, you could algorithmically identify it, which would then make it not soulful

IDK if we are talking about the same aesthetic theory.

Also, I can agree to your conclusion to a degree, but there is always an air of nostalgia to it, but that doesnt mean there are not specific aspects you can appreciate better in retrospect. a particular zeitgeist can better be distinguished. Its not entirely a fake distinction between "soul" and "Soules"

People do not think either of these was good, you just life in a bubble of bad taste.
