Anyone got more like this? Could be fantasy, sci-fi or SF. I just want a dark, "fuck it all" protagonist ready to burn the world just to reach his goal, using his smarts and neglect of morals.

Read half of it and put it on the shelf.
I might start over and finish it soon.

I read it after reading this post
it's pretty good, the sequel is kind of a step down in quality imo

The Blade Itself is decent, in a somewhat similar vein to Prince of Thorns.
Mark Lawrence also has another trilogy, starting with Grey Sister that is good

sorry, starts with Red Sister. Book of the Ancestor series

So what you are saying is that you are looking for a dark fantasy series with intense battles, pitch black lore, highly intellectual themes that dovetail into real world philosophy, poignant character psychology, and just a hint of Lovecraftian horror?

If that is the case then I would heartily recommend the works of Brandon Sanderson who has helped modernize and popularize the concept of "hard magic", which is basically the idea that magic needs rules to make sense just as there are rules for science. Fantasy can largely be divided in to before and after Sanderson, a divide which is synonymous with Unrealistic and Realistic fantasy.

Is it as good as Prince of Thornes?
I tried reading Prince og Fools but had to stop after the second book. It felt like a drop in quality in all aspects.

I rarely dive into fantasy unless someone gives me a good reason, so I guess I'll try Sanderson. Which book should I pick up first?

the story took place in the same world, but withourt a crazy protagonist bending the world to his will, it's just not the same

There's more of that towards the end of the book but it's still the same style of vaguely connected short stories

Holy shit a thread that isn't about philosophy??????????

I wonder why they haven't changed the name of this board from literature to philosophy.
