Really? I don’t post here often. An anon on another board recommended it to me. I found it extremely anti European.

The book is fantastic but people come into the thread and complain about Jews and anarchists without having read the book because /lit/ doesn’t read. Sometimes I’ll find an anon who has read it and it’s a good discussion. The book is fantastic and paints an interesting picture of the evolution of debt and social relationships. It blew my mind. I get that it’s Reddit to gush about a book and use fantastical language without speaking too much about the content of the book, but god damn. I couldn’t put it down. It has all these little side stories woven into the main thesis that on their own are interesting but add to the whole. His style is also extraordinary charming. RIP.

Praise be upon him. I read this book in 2014 and it's my favorite nonfiction to this day

I'm 1/3 through now, it's good, especially for someone who didn't know much about anthropology. There are lots of anecdotes about primitive societies that I hadn't heard before.

You didn’t notice how anti European it was? He makes a mention of Cortez gambling against the Aztec King, the king who sacrificed thousands upon thousands of people to keep the sun revolving, but Cortez was evil because he “cheated” (he never provides a source for this btw). Also in the conclusion he criticizes historians for rejecting premises on the basis of the absence of evidence, but he bases his entire argument on the fact that bartering never existed because there is no evidence that it did.
