old books usually have more depth and have the interest/novelty of giving insight into the past while being enjoyable literature. plenty of contemporary literature is technically good and enjoyable but mostly generic and unimportant.

Because there aren't a lot of good new books yet. Good books don't come along every single year. Even now there are only a handful of good books written in the 21st Century.

That said, I wouldn't mind a thread on Laurus, or A Brief History Of Seven Killings. Both of those are pretty good.
