Yeah but the attitude is very consumer-fetishistic. I'm not immune to it, I also like to buy nice objects and look forward to giving myself a little treat. But the gun community is way too much into exhibiting the toy that came in the mail. Everything that regularly makes it into EDC is backed by a specific breed of shopping fetishists. It's not just showing your gun in a photo but doing it in this very feminine artsy style with your little products nicely arranged to showcase.
Either way it's really gay.

It's so performative

>oh gee Randy that's a neat piece you've got there, you mustn't hardly ever be frightened holding that

If the rifle handmade by you? Why should I be impressed? You just bought it at Walmart. What kind of statement is it? This is even gayer than posting a selfie of yourself in front of the mirror as if your muscles meant shit in a conversation. At least you worked out in order to post a picture of your waxed pecs to another man.
Seriously it's gay. I like some guns too, they have a certain aesthetic, but it's still pretty gay to do this EDC shit.

Not really, in fact I would say that the American culture is ill-suited for violence when you actually dissect it and put it in a historic perspective.
Additionally, every single person who worships violence in America is either a subhuman brute or the most cowardly, fat retard who trembles at its sight.

Yeah but it really depends on the country. While I lived in Poland I never carried any papers with me, and I had to take trips out from my home in the old town to my dealers place and back. Walking around town with drugs in a place like Poland ( weed ) was nerve wracking at first but I realized if you’re dressed well and not shifty the cops will literally never bother you.

Pic related: S&W Extreme Ops. Cost me ten USD a year ago or so. Made in China, it has a liner lock I don't completely trust, but for concealable in a pocket package opening knife that i can rub with hand sanitizer and use to cut up and eat steak or fruit or whatever it does the job. I have a few Opinels but I like those too much to get them dirty/wash them just for their wood to swell up, otherwise they're great for the same purposes. SAK is also an option, or if you like having a tool handy a Gerber Extension is an okay multitool if you don't ask too much of it. Use mine for screwdriving and bottle opening and cutting, has a saw on it too in case i need to make a log cabin out of popsicle sticks.

Here that's normally only if you go to a club or just turned 18. It's the first generation where ID was necessary for drinking. Drinking and smoking being over 18s only came in when I was a kid. I never had ID because bouncers and shopkeepers would just ask, "You're 18, right?". If you get asked for ID at a club, it normally means, "We're not letting you in, we will tell you that you have the wrong shoes if you do have ID". I'd say most people who walk around with ID have fake ID and are 16.

depending on where in the country you live, you may be required to take classes before you can have a license to purchase a gun. most places you can just go to Cabelas or your local gun shop, or order online and have it delivered to your FFL. if you're really lucky and live in a rural area you could probably score a nice old Smith and Wesson from a pawn shop or local gun store.

wouldn't recommend a revolver for a first pistol. my first was a 1911 in 45acp, and that was after years of shooting rifle. 1911 has frame safety, grip safety, in addition to your finger safety. revolvers, especially DA revolvers, have heavier triggers that can make getting on target difficult for some people. and if you get disarmed by a brute it's curtains for you because its really too easy to operate a revolver: just squeeze the trigger. the only safeties most of them have is a transfer bar to prevent pops from falls. if you're absolutely set on a revolver though, the SP101 is a nice one. a bit bulky for carry, they also make a LCR that is smaller and lighter and consequently has a bit more recoil. i'd stay away from Armscor. stop by /k/ and say hi

Revolvers are great guns, that are 100% obsolete in the modern day. They do the thing people want, being a gun, just fine, but by basically every metric they do it worse than something designed in the last century. The handful of places where they might possibly do something better than a semiautomatic, the advantages are highly exaggerated, and only present in a revolver that is significantly more expensive than a comparable semiauto.

Revolvers are just fine as defensive weapons if you train with them like you're supposed to. They have the added benefit of being better platforms for experimenting with handloads; there's no magazine feed system or recoil operation to get in the way.

No. All-steel revolvers from S&W or Ruger are gonna be $700-800 at least, new, probably higher depending on model and given the current high demand since 2020 riots. Colt revolvers will easily by four figures.

If you want something affordable and reliable, get a polymer gun like a Ruger 9 or Smith & Wesson M&P 9. Would not recommend a subcompact pistol as a starter gun; smaller sights and more recoil and blast (shorter barrel burns less of the powder inside it and more flash outside the muzzle).

And yeah Hunter S Thompson was all about guns. Papa Hemingway too. Currently reading some Civil War books that are mostly about troop movements and weapons.

No. A modern, polymer semi automatic will usually run about $400-$600, pre-corona tax. A revolver is usually gonna run closer to $800 or so for the cheaper ones, and more like $1200+ for something like a Colt. A high end, competition/target semi auto is gonna run in the $1200 - $1800 range or thereabouts. A similar revolver would be something like a Korth, which runs something like $4000-$5000.

Those black powder .44s are about equivalent to a .380 ACP, not very powerful, but they are heavy. Originals are more like $3000 - $6000. I don't know that anyone sells a replica that goes for more than $1000. Colt made modern production 1851 Navy's back in the day, those go for around $900 - $1200, I don't think they made a Dragoon, but that's the only replica that might possibly be worth more than $500.

Yes, Americans really do carry this many knives, if not more.

Everyone asking about passports, I know many people like OP. He's an overgrown manchild(you can tell by his shit taste in weapon) and needs an ID to fill his addiction(also on display, disgusting). He uses his passport because he comes from a wealthy background that got to travel a lot, but he never bothered to learn how to drive. That's why he carries around such a cumbersome and valuable document with him.

You can't use cash because it has been intentionally phased out. Not because you're more 'advanced' or something. In my country we can still use both but they have taken the pandemic as an opportunity to limit cash further (among other things). Probably the worst case is China, using WeChat for everything with a proven overbearing gov. Can stop you from being able to do anything with the flick of a switch.

Defeated as in how they stopped bothering with the ill defined goal and went home, but not defeated like they got overwhelmed by the unfathomable military might and were brought to their knees, with untold losses.

If you look at actual combat performance in Vietnam and Afghanistan, they largely stomped their opposition in the majority of engagements and operations, which is why the Taliban resorted to the smart thing and instead just sat back and waited for the American forces to realize what a waste of time it all was, finally going home (the NVA put up a real serious fight, however).
These specific wars were very pointless and whatever supposed goals there were couldn't be realized, not the way the Americans went about it, but that doesn't change the fact that they have obscene military might on the global stage. Nobody else in the world has a Navy or Airforce even remotely as large or well equipped as the Americans, nobody else has armored divisions and a grasp of combined arms this good and at this scale, finally, nobody can deploy it all that fast. Their military might is not even remotely imaginary.
If you look at Germany, Japan, Korea, Grenada, Panama, and Iraq, you can question the reason for each them and if the end result was good (I personally think that Grenada was good), but militarily they cleaned house.

The real issue here is that though they genuinely have the best hammer in the world, that doesn't make every problem they turn their attention to into a nail that they can just hammer down. If you need to paint a house or redo the plumbing or electrical wiring, you need something more than just a hammer. It also doesn't address separate problems at home, nor the effects that these wars have on the homeland, or ultimately that this may one day have a catastrophic effect on said military might.

It's the death of actual discussion (although it's been dead for ages) and replacement with an aesthetic. It's like the joke that /lit/ doesn't read but it was never a joke. Knives are very good general purpose tools which have a number of different uses, cutting packaging, paper and tape, cutting cords, trimming mold lines and flash on plastic parts, cutting fruit and vegetation for various different reasons, whittling pieces of wood or otherwise working surfaces, etc. I can envision a million different things that I can use a knife for throughout the day, for all kinds of jobs and hobbies, and not one involved shedding a man's blood.

I must surmise that you're an emotionally stunted retard who's been conditioned to be deathly afraid of anything that could be potentially dangerous, regardless of actual context or likelihood. You must be avoiding carpenters and construction workers in a panic whenever you see them due to the deadly blades they carry, and you've never ridden a car in your life because car accidents can happen.

Utterly atrocious idea, acquire a firearm.

There's advantages and disadvantages to revolvers. I'll list some which I think are worthwhile pros.
>doesn't depend on the power of your ammunition or a consistency of such for reliable function, your finger does all the work (and thumb, depending on how you go about it), can use the weakest target loads, blackpowder loads, or even blanks, and it will cycle through every chamber like it should
>can fit a pretty powerful and long cartridge like .357 Magnum, or even .44 Magnum, and the gun doesn't have to be huge to accommodate it (whereas options for those, or rimless equivalents, are very slim and limited for automatics)
>can easily be fired from inside of a pocket (assuming your gun fits in your pocket, depending on the size of both of them), automatics may struggle to do this for more than one shot
>automatics will disengage the trigger if the slide is pushed out of battery (because firing out of battery is a very bad thing), this is something that you don't have to consider with a revolver, potentially this could be an important point if there's a struggle for the gun and a shot has to be at absolute point blank, with contact to the target

Here's a Smith & Wesson M69, it's in .44 Magnum, and has a cylinder with five chambers, instead of six, to have a less wide profile. There's no automatic pistol that I can think of in a package this size which produces comparable footpounds to this revolver, the closest I can think of is one automatic in .357 Magnum, and a few in 10mm Auto, neither which are nowhere close in energy.
Perhaps not most people's number 1 choice for regular carry, but something like this can make a lot of sense for someone who lives in places where there's dangerous animals about.
