Goblin slayer novel is the best fantasy literature ever written and the best literature written in the past 10 years.

If you disagree I will assume you are a goblin and slay you.

No but seriously--it may seem like pulpy wish fulfillment anime-tier plot, but it's not.

In the world of goblin slayer, virtue above all else, is rewarded.

When was the last time you ever read something in where that was the theme!?

Not to be rude, but while LNs are technically literature, most aren't very /lit/ and could better be discussed on /a/ or even /jp/. What's the point of trying to discuss LNs if only people that usually also browse /a/ are even able to comment on the them here? You wouldn't try to discuss obscure anime on /tv/, no?

Will I enjoy the themes and philosophy of Goblin Slayer, as unlike most western novels, make people think on what they would do on such a situation, I feel like the rape is a bit heavy handed and detracts from the series as a whole. While, yes, you can make an argument that other novels, especially from the western canon, have similar, if not worse, things done in their stories, most easily recognize the authors as pseudo-intellectual midwit.

Could you elaborate more on its themes? I'll never read it

I find it to be a striking sign of maturity when an author can present a very bleak and cynical world while still rationally salvaging something uplifting or inspiring out of it. That's not easy to do. Usually you either have manchildren using nihilism as a veneer to seem sophisticated or actual nihilists who're unwittingly painting the world with their own hopelessness invalidating the uplifting message they felt obliged to include. Cormac McCarthy comes to mind, though the hope he provides is more obtuse. I guess it doesn't belong on /lit/, but Berserk is a good example, too.

You already have an entire board just for you. Why do you have to bring anime/manga trash also here?

I'll be honest, I got filtered by the first episode of goblin slayer and didn't watch any more. It was just disgusting and depressing. That aside- sell me on the LN? Is it substantially different from the anime? What made you like it so much?

Far as I know the rape scene was mangskas own addition to the manga and anime, while in the novel the rape was only implied.

First don't read LN, and goblin slayer isn't a deep story, of course that depends by every person. I like it because despite the setting, MC isn't another magical thin boy, main group isn't useless or weaker than MC, and the story is comfy.
