I like the topic too. But I blur their lines around sociology and anthropology

don't major in sociology, it's the worst thing to major in that's not completely off the walls like basket weaving or _______ studies

seriously, you will regret it. Not only is it a completely unemployable major, they teach you jack shit as well. You will waste your time, effort, and tuition on a retarded major that will get you nowhere in life and give you no satisfaction. The only good things are it's an incredibly easy major and more often there are a lot of cute girls in your classes.

Communications, Philosophy, English, Economics, Psychology... look you can shit on any one of these majors and find flaws with the field of study but every single one of these majors are infinitely better than sociology.

TRUST ME anon. DON'T MAJOR IN SOCIOLOGY

I agree with this anon that studying sociology as an undergrad at an institution is a terrible idea, because you will both waste your time and money and you also won't learn sociology. But I do think that sociology as a field among it some of the greatest thinkers on social and political organisation. Somewhat ironically, OP, you should be preferring the older works to the newer stuff. Because, while I don't believe in the whole "fall of academia to post-modern neomarxist trannybangers who want to turn you into a feminist" rhetoric, sociology is probably one of the only fields where this is kind of the case. There still are very good contemporary sociologists, but they are not predominant in the field.
But I think Sociological Imagination is a great place to start, but then work backwards to the classics like Weber, Durkheim, Marx, Tonnies, Simmel, and the like. Then go forward again and despair at the absolute state of contemporary sociology and how much potential it had. If you really want to study sociology at university, then first check the courses to see what you're getting into, then if it looks shit major in an adjacent social science/humanities like anthropology or something, minor in sociology, read into the field at your own discretion, then shoot for a grad program where the advisors are actually good and not just gender-studies proxies.
