One of my favourite books I don’t know if it’s because of the nostalgia of reading it when I was younger.

But there seems to be some helpless feeling throughout the book that I can’t seem to describe. Not necessarily a feeling of melancholy or danger but of the feeling of being stranded.

Such a wonderful book. Ernst von Salomon probably is among the 20th century writers with the most interesting lives, which makes most of his novels being autobiographical in nature all too more interesting. He could very much be memeable as le epic right-wing intellectual XD like Ernst Jünger, I really do wonder why he isn't brought up as often here. Der Fragebogen is definitely his master work, it has its points where it drags on for eternity, but when it picks up it really does. His anecdotes are always memorable, and there is a fair bit of more deep-seated philosophising about the (totalitarian/modern) state, religion and history if you look a bit deeper into some of the questions. Actually, Ernst Jünger in his "Waldgang" in the beginning mentioned ballots turning into questionnaries, and I'm quite sure he talked about the very same Questionnary Ernst von Salomon parodied, considering both were contemporaries and had to go through the same hassles during Allied occupation.
