Okay. So I stumbled across this guy online, a Christian, who completely wrecked my internal image of Christianity. He's some Yale theology professor (or student?) who is going around telling other Christians to "say no the Bible" and God. Like, he actually wrote a book titled "Saying No to God"... as a self-described "devout Christian."

It's pretty normal to find stuff like this among mainline Protestants. In a desperate attempt to remain mainline these churches have wholeheartedly adopted the progressive program. The only kind of thought that mainline Protestants put out is centred around getting Christianity to fit in to modern progressive sensibilities. People of course notice that this doesn't work, which is why these churches are cratering faster than any other.

This has been common belief fever since the Church Fathers. It comes to a difference between Prima Scriptura and Sola Scriptura. Primary Scriptura holds that the Bible is the primary source of divine knowledge, but Thor the only one. It allows for great reinterpretation, though outright rejection is kind of a stretch. Sola Scriptura was developed by Martin Luther and is the reason why Protestants are so retarded and why non-Christians who have only been exposed to Protestants think the Bible is so scary. Sola Scriptura, Scripture alone, posits that the Bible alone is the only place to find God, any kind of theology can be anathema if you believe this, and it’s why so many literalists come out of Protestantism.

But by what are they so convinced that they are right? I know the idea of the media telling them they are smart and they are so dumb that they believe them, but I think that there is a more strange and insidious psychic structure causing this attitude. They must have realized something at some point in adolescence that turned them into "a person who is smart and therefore a person who knows better than anyone with a non mainstream belief". I think they see rationalism and poor logic as a kind of subculture that they facilitate. Basically people who act this way think that doing so will get them laid (they think this subconsciously). Why else would this behavior be so aggressive?

Well, I cannot say to much about canada, but if you are in a mass college, which I assume a good number of people here are, literally go 20 minutes most outside of a college town like Amherst or Boston, and there is a firm divide. And hell, Mass is generally seen as a LIBERAL state. But again, I bet that is due to urban/rural split.
