A lot of people say mid 1800s Orl Korrect, others will say Old Kinderhook both related to Martin Van Buren.
Though there has been records of O.K. as early as the late 1700s.
Most famously used by New York Dutch gangs to mean “Only Knickerbockers”-“I’m OK” having clubs where only they were allowed to enter, they had a hierarchical society with members varying from common thieves to office holders.
During the revolution they would help each other by giving more rations, better equipment and positions. They began friendships with fellow soldiers and would help them too “give him an extra ration, he is OK”
Later soldiers would use the same term and it spread across the country.

We actually went outside, it was normal to walk/run/bike that mile to a friends house and knock on the door to see if they were interested in doing something and we did it without even knowing if they were even home.
