Among others - society™ thinks (thought?) it values christian virtues but punishes individuals who actually practice them.

Midwit take. It's that Jesus is incompatible with modern atheist life in industrial societies. People are egotistical and Jesus' humility and passivity will be taken advantage of, it's impossible to really "love everyone equally" etc.

I think it would always be taken advantage of. Do you think it's worse now?

Totally depends where you live I think. If you were around people like bankers and lawyers, yeah probably. If you were around lower class Americans, probably people would be kinder. Also realized it depends on race. Some races are just incompatible with the European religion of Christianity.

Should I perseve, bros? I got to the part where has the stroke and I'm just bored to tears. I lost the plot and have no idea which lord was a pedo and which was not. Does it get better? This is the first time a Dosto book makes me this tired.

I've only begun reading but it's very comfy. Only Dosto (and Tolstoy to an extent) give me this feeling. With other authors I always have the feeling they're secretly at odds with the universe (God?) and want to disturb my peace as well

Dostoevsky himself didn't really know how the story was going to end until later in his writing of it, so it definitely meanders for a bit. The final part is absolutely worth it though, stick through it.
