I mean to say on some worldview or change of habit or even lifestyle all together.
This thread should have a wide range of books.

I don't agree with everything or much in this book but Hayek's arguments and steadiness in "The Use of Knowledge in Society" has influenced my eventual drift towards Heidegger's hermeneeutic phenomenology and I have only Hayek to thank for and his rich mind.

read All Quiet on the Western Front when I was 15, definitely changed the way I read books

Imagine reading the Brothers Karamazov and turning to Christianity. Hahahahaha. As a Russian, TBK is my favorite book, but its religious aspects are its weakest feature. It's a great psychological novel. It is an interesting, dynamic book with a great character cast and an amazing plot structure, but its philosophical postulates are outdated and naive.

>If god is le real, then why le bad thing happens?!?!
>If god is not le real, then this means I can do le bad thing...
>Bro!!! If Jesus ever came back... We'd fucking kill him again LMAO! How fucked up is that.

Dostoyevsky was never good at this.

religious people don't realize that god loves "bad things" and even puts himself through great hardship because he comes out stronger that way.

Two big ones i can think of

"Of Human Bondage" by W. Somerset Maugham, made me realise my own hard upbringing and young years full of loneliness and poverty were not an isolated thing. That other people had survived and overcome similar miserable starts to life. That life could still be meaningful, worthwhile and beautiful even after a youth full of misery.

"The Forsythe Saga" by John Galsworthy. Made me think about what life is really for. The whole basis of what one lives for.

I can't explain it better than that.

Plato's dialogues.
Convinced me to strengthen my body and disregard the lowly trivialities of ordinary people.
