Yeah, I’m trying to escape from some problems and have some mental issues. The girl my character meets is supposed to be a representation of my own schizophrenia. Mostly because it helps me cope and provides me comfort.

Ok how about a chap named Dave who goes down the pub with his mates, but they've run out of draught and so he's sat there like a mong drinking mong pub wine in a pint glass and he and his two chums sit and recount their youth (interspersed with thoughts of drinking mong wine). It's a short story of around 60 pages or so, called 'Another Round'. Actually it's probably a better play than a short story. I just came up with this rn as I'm sat on the toilet having a disgustingly wet shite, feel free to adapt anyone ITT.

OP I have no comment on the actual plot of your story but do you have experience train hopping? If you don't, then how do you expect to write about it? Normally I wouldn't say this is an issue since most writing is writing about things you may have never done, but when it's as pivotal part of the story as it seems in your pic, the inauthenticity will be very obvious. Even to a layman.

It would definitely help. But compare the writings of the Beatniks to writings of people imitating the Beatniks and you can see a clear sort of divide form. I think if you're a good enough writer you can make anything work though. But if I was writing about something intimately, that's as niche and specific as train hopping (with as clear cut a community), then I would really want to have some sort of experience and understanding of how it works. Could you write a great story without it? Of course. Depends what the story is going for I guess.

A boy falls in love with a girl.
Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.
But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all.
