No book will help you if you're not invested in your community or have friends, but this is a dilemma since community doesn't really exist in the 21st century.
But, I would say to try getting into philosophy, Plato's dialogues are amazing, Marcus Aurelius gets hyped by techdorks and idiots but his writing isn't too bad.
Avoid self-help at all costs.
Cultivate the mind through understanding of the world, and strengthen the body by both physical strength-training(weights) and endurance through cardio(running or anything).
Also, consider some cookbooks, getting fit is so much easier when you are also learning to cook, I consider cooking to be the most productive and immediately rewarding application of wisdom..

if you're open to spirituality and based/redpilled and white, you should read and practice this trilogy. it is much more than profane philosophy. much more powerful than stoicism or dumb egoism, although it is related to these but totally superior.

"Magic" in this sense is not what you think it means, rather it is an active attitude toward spiritual enlightenment (metaphysical reality exists, independent of your opinion, and if you dedicate yourself to these practices and studying the wisdom of the ancients you will probably begin to experience it.)

this is basically transcendent "self-help" for the ancient kings and emperors.

Not OP, but thanks for this man. had a bad today, and I will take some of this advice. Do you have a strength training workout recommendation for someone who hasn't lifted a lot? I already get my cardio by playing tennis most of the week (not country club tennis, actual tennis).

>> No.18906968

Triumph of the will stuff is not gonna cut it, maybe some people can mold themselves into the person they wanna be, but for the average despondent guy I would suggest that joining a discord server say, because irl communities are few and far between, of people who can egg each other on to improve themselves might do a lot more good for your psyche and for your productivity than the lonely, hermit-like approach of reading esoteric magick (always with the k) books that may or may not have the secret to stop being a loser. Even monks live in a monastery with other people, an atomized suburbanite is not gonna have that anytime soon, so the next best thing is to make and join online communities where you can exert social pressure on each other to become /fitlit/ chads, if that's what you want anyway.

There aren't really any good books about suddenly and totally changing your life as it's unrealistic for most people. What actually happens is people steadily improve but getting started will feel like a big change if you've been in a rut for a long time.

Some decent self help books that might provide you with what you're looking for are:

The Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters

Atomic Habits by James Clear

The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

Good luck, stay strong.

I would add that I gained strength purely from lifting handweights at home.

What are some decent books that actually therapists use for their clients who can't get out their degenerate habits?
Most of those self help books seem just like mental masturbation to me, you get maybe a rush of inspiration and a short lived call for action but usually you just succumb to your old way of living
However I definitely too need to transform my life since I got fired and spiraled down the typical neet loop of doing nothing and just wasting away hours in front of the screen - I want to try the learn2code meme but this requires hours of dedication and focus

I spent 2 thousand dollars on camping gear and travelled into my countries mountains and walked with my dog for month. Every day my feet were sore and i was exhausted and annoyed by all the shit i had to deal with, rain, mosquitoes my dog being annoying, being cold and wet and everything getting dirty.
But the air was clean, i slept like a log every night. I woke up energized and every bite of food i ate tasted great. Even just the kiss of the sun on my cheeks was enough to make me feel satisfied. I didnt have time to think about all the useless trash that occupied my life back home. I was focused on satisfying my basic needs.
When i came back home i still felt good for a couple of days afterwards. But eventually i fell back into the same old shit, masturbating, eating garbage food, braindead browsing the internet.

Soon my vacation is over, i am happy i did it. Now i know that it isnt something wrong with me, its something wrong with my modern lifestyle. The ease and comfort of city life is what makes your brain turn into mashed potatoes. Now my goal is to get away from it
