Curious what people's thoughts are on the likes of Dennis Cooper, Kathy Acker, Easton Ellis, Matthew Stokoe, etc.

George Miles Cycle? Blood and Guts in High School?

Any recommendations similar to these authors or books of theirs you've read?

I know the "revolt against the modern world, be a conservative" narrative seems trite and overdone at this point, but when you see that this lot, which glorifies and reifies everything that happened from 1968 onwards, is somehow held up as "transgressive," the meme really does seem to have a note of freshness to it.

You want to be REALLY transgressive? Say you hate the United States Constitution. Say you disagree with democracy as a form of government. Say you believe in criminalizing both condoms and birth control. That's vastly more transgressive in 2021 than this pansexual pablum slop. That's stuff that will actually get you put on a watchlist, if you voice it out loud.

i am not a/pol/troon who shits on everything published after blood meridian or whatever, but the anons above are basically right. cooper and acker are beyond fuckin lame. maybe it was cool and edgy back in the ’80s but it hasn’t aged well at all. any ’experimentation’ is kindergarten-level at best. a waste of my time

you're not allowed to be truly transgressive of any of the status quo--that leads to censorship
the books that take this label are just fancy smut--a whore dressed up as a lady.

Cooper's good though.
Read Frisk and The Sluts.

actual good writer. Frisk is good

I dunno, doubt it's transgressive because a woman wrote it
>easton ellis
eh, pass. seems normie-tier so haven't read

I read it before the movie, and the movie tries to honor it, but doesn't come close.

It's an outstanding book. And there's so much in it that didn't come across on the screen, that I think it would be a very good read despite having seen the movie.

Well, admittedly, one shortcoming of the book is that you don't get to stare at peak Jennifer Connelly.

It's not so much about being "Conservative" that gets you in trouble per se, but rather. denying innate human equality in one way or another.

dennis cooper has managed to remain transgressive for decades ironically not because of his work's graphic content but because of his very unsentimental depiction of gay culture in a time where it is increasingly difficult to criticize at all. this is similar to how radical separatist lesbians have produced the most thorough critique of transgenderism

Ellis is better than he might seem if you haven't read him -- just american psycho and less than zero though

JG Ballard's Crash is a better transgressive novel than anything on this list
