I feel like /lit/ greatly suffers from diminishing returns. the discussion here is so lacklustre, you can essentially leave this place once you compile a list of all the charts and miss out on nothing.

Because no one here actually reads any books.

Drop by for recs and to find out when you missed the Princeton sale

you don't need to read anything but the Greeks most of us are shitposting

The charts here are pretty useless with maybe a few exceptions. They're usually just lists of random primary sources, and even when they're not, the recs are pretty bad.

this. a person who makes a chart has not read their chart. everyone just endlessly reports charts, that they did not make and have no read, because the format is so powerful somehow.

this. a person who makes a chart has not read their chart (almost always, so from their perspective a lot of the books are just random). everyone just endlessly reposts charts, that they did not make and have not read, because the format is so powerful somehow.

More likely: most readers here strongly identify with some philosophy or ideology. Which means every discussion will devolve into name calling.

sometimes you see 2 people having an argument on here, and they’re both doing multiple paragraph replies, and you read it and they’re saying literally nothing of substance. i think 90% of posters here are completely talking out of their ass

A thread died for this

>> No.18884242

I think it's to do with the medium. Sometimes I get into an argument or a discussion and begin typing up paragraphs, but then I stop and think that I'm talking to an anonymous stranger, most often a stupid one, for the benefit of other anonymous strangers, and I go off and do something else. 4chan creates superficial conversation and the argumentative culture ruins anything that goes beyond that.
