I don't know who this Shitkicker guy is and I agree with you that self publishing is an abattoir of retards who can't spell check, but your unwavering faith in "universities" and belief that a "BA in communications" is worth anything at all is embarrassing as fuck. I have rejected hundreds of short stories, 90% of their cover letters mentioning an MFA program in Iowa, and they are, by and large, indistinguishable from cringe self-published crap. The idea that you need to go to a university to learn how to write stories is so horribly incorrect, that it's mind boggling. Go to university to learn to be a doctor, or a lawyer, or an engineer, but for art? A guy who reads 50 pages a day, every day, and writes maybe a page a day in a journal, will be a better writer than anyone with a BA in creative writing. All artists need are practice, not degrees.

Once again. I'm not defending this Shitkicker guy, or anyone who self publishes, but you seriously need to rethink your personal biases and try a little introspection.
