Any list that is decided through a lot of different people voting is obviously going to be pretty “basic” or whatever it is that the people who are making fun of that list are accusing it of being. Especially when the group that votes on it isn’t focused around any sort of topic beyond the extremely broad “Literature” and there are absolutely zero barriers to entry. To interpret that list as some carefully curated regiment of the all-time greatest literature is absolutely retarded, as is to imagine that that list is one specific person’s taste and that everyone on /lit/ basically shares that taste. It is literally just the amalgamated result of several polls, and as such absolutely nothing about it should come much as a surprise to anyone vaguely familiar with /lit/ or even 4chan in general. Also Twitter is gay.

I would make justifications about how I've read a lot of spanish/spic literature that hasn't made it to english speaking lists, but honestly I'm just unnecessarily defiant and refuse to read "classics"

What's a good recommendation to start tackling this list?

Most of my highschool reading was magical realism with some Orwell and such sprikled in. I was supposed to read Don Quijote, but I was too busy reading exclusively science fiction at the time, and the archaic language filtered me hard.
Now that I look at the list in detail I can see more titles I've read, but the total is still at about 15. I was forced to read some of these like Catcher in the Rye, Hamlet, The Odyssey, and The Iliad, but most of what I've read from here has been personal reading.

When I began to write this I thought I had more to say but it sickens me and depresses me too much to think of these zoomers all climbing over eachother in a big pile on twitter trying to get "likes" like a bunch of fucking teenage girls. At least the teenage girls are stone cold retarded and shallow, they need no excuses, they have an animal existence. At least /lit/'s pseud posters are anonymous and mostly self-deprecating. Somehow every twitter screenshot I see of these wannabe critical theory perpetual undergraduate zoomers is like if you mixed a teenage girl's lack of self-awareness with only the worst /lit/ discord tourist newfag's self-awareness.

All the worst aspects of both, all the pretense of a late teens or 20ish tryhard who doesn't realize he's embarrassing himself, and all the shallowness of stupid young broads who expect credit and attention for doing nothing of note.

>JEFFERSON didn’t believe any nation had the right to contract debts that it couldn’t pay off with reasonable effort within nineteen years.

>“ The best place for keeping money is in the pockets of the people.”

>We have had the century of the “benefits of concentration of capital” (and the malefits).

>Paper money in the popular pocket would not breed stagnation and it would not stay there for the reasons of oriental hoarding. The popolano would want to show it was there. Its distribution would mean greater mobility of goods.

>The first act of the fascio was to save Italy from people too stupid to govern, I mean the Italian communists, the Lenin-less communists. The second act was to free it from parliamentarians, possibly worse, though probably no more dishonest than various other gangs of parliamentarians, but at any rate from groups too politically immoral to govern.

>As far as financial morals are concerned, I should say that from being a country where practically everything and anything was for sale, Mussolini has in ten years transformed it into a country where it would even be dangerous to try to buy out the government. In other countries they excuse inexplicable perfidies by saying “These men are personally honest.” I am now quoting an admiral : “All I know is that all these men are my personal friends and I assure you that they are personally honest.” The implication being that they play the super-crooks’ game because they are stupid and hoodwinked.

>A capacity for being hoodwinked is not in itself a qualification for ruling. It is, let us admit, often a means of getting office in countries where office is elective. Jefferson thought the live men would beat out the cat’s-paws.

>The fascist hate of demi-liberal governments is based on the empiric observation that, in many cases, they don’t and have not.

>London stank of decay back before 1914 and I have recorded the feel of it in a poem here and there. The live man in a modern city feels this sort of thing or perceives it as the savage perceives in the forest. I don’t know how many men keep alive in modern civilization but when one has the frankness to compare notes one finds that the intuition is confirmed just as neatly or almost as neatly as if the other man saw a shop sign.

>Thus London going mouldy back in say 1912 or 1911. After the War death was all over it.

>Italy was, on the other hand, full of bounce. I said all of this to a Lombard writer. I said: London is dead, Paris is tired, but here the place is alive. What they don’t know is plenty, but there is some sort of animal life here. If you put an idea into these people they would DO something.

>The Lombard writer said yes ... and looked across the hotel lobby; finally he said: “And you know it is terrible to be surrounded by all this energy and ... and ... not to have an idea to put into it.”

>Jefferson thought the formal features of the American system would work, and they did work till the time of general Grant but the condition of their working was that inside them there should be a de facto government composed of sincere men willing the national good. When the men of their understanding, and when the nucleus of the national mind hasn’t the moral force to translate knowledge into action I don’t believe it matters a damn what legal forms or what administrative forms there are in a government. The nation will get the staggers.

>And any means are the right means which will remagnetize the will and the knowledge.

>I think the American system de jure is probably quite good enough, if there were only 500 men with guts and the sense to USE it, or even with the capacity for answering letters, or printing a paper.

>Power is necessary to some acts, but neither Lenin nor Mussolini show themselves primarily as men thirsting for power. The great man is filled with a very different passion, the will toward order. Hence the mysteries and the muddles in inferior minds.

Nothing. People on Twitter are threatened by the masculine, intellectual, quasi-fascist energy emanating from /lit/, but they are also secretly attracted to it and want to be dominated by it, since most people on there are either weak-willed, leftist (unattractive) women who mostly read YA and PC trash, or womanly queers. So they put up a front of mocking us, as if they were somehow better read than the majority of /lit/ users (which they are not), and try to call us unintelligent, close-minded or pretentious for actually having a modicum of taste. The ironic stance they take towards us is only a means of repressing their frustrated sexual desire. In short, if you are a /lit/ user, find out Twitter pussy or bussy IRL and dominate it with your Doric column-like knowledge of the Greeks and your unsubtly phallocentric postmodern tomes.

You think they'd understand that a list is supposed to be general, and does not account for people' individual interests. I've never seen anyone who lists Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Taylor Swift as their favorite artists, but they seem to think that people who browse here are the type that would. Actual projection. The fact that they believe that such a list might encompass a single person's interests is proof of the fact that they haven't developed their own interests even a little bit in a single direction.

Yeah, let's pretend that /oldlit/ where people unironically thought DFW was the greatest writer in history was any better.
The issue now is that jannies/mods are themselves trying to transform the board into reddit. It has been going on for years by now. I once got banned for calling Jemisin a talentless identitarian nigerwoman but 99.99% of the time saying nigger is obviously fine. It only recently started having significant impact. Mods updates the wiki, started banning /pol/posting under the pretext of "low quality" and "meaningless catchphrase", etc.
They deleted Platonism general, probably because Platonism is loosely associated with fascism for some reason.
Twitter screencap threads are allowed 99% of the time even if they are political/off-topic. Their deletion used to be a coin flip and jannies usually pretended that the only reason they didn't delete all of them was a lack of resources.
Reddit screencaps? Same thing.
I don't browse /pol/. I don't care about politics. But Jannies seem to. I tried saying ywnbaw in /wg/ as a clever word-play where the last w "woman" becomes "writer" and got warned. Fucking niggers.
Essentially hiro wants that add money but marketing jews won't give him any if 4chan continues to have the reputation of le right-winger racists.
Just look at the reddit post. Its an inside job. Hiro is trying to normalize blue boards. Make it look like we don't hate women and niggers. I don't hate women and niggers. I don't read their books though and I will pretend I hate women and niggers. I find it funny. But the wallstreet jew won't give hiro ad money if Hiro allows me to be overly homophobic.
Empiricist thread deleted, reneissance art thread deleted, climate change alarmism thread up, le enlightened centrist twitter screencap up.
Wake up before its too late.

There’s nothing to argue, as one of the Twitterfags said >>18820621 it’s a pretty standard list, the point is that these Twitter people cannot stand that such regular list could come from Le evil 4chin raciest hacker website. They can’t grasp into their minds that 4chan is just a forum for them everything associated with this site is inherently evil. And to be honest, I think it should be kept that way, so that these Twitter people are too scared of confronting 4chan boogey man and they don’t come here and shit up the board with their pseudness and college marxism

Anon.....4chan has traditionally been known as the place for fat geeks. If you were bullied you went here. While reddit has changed its image to the point that everyone uses it now, the point still stands for 4chan. You only come here because you’re not wanted anywhere else. This site has a “masculine energy” because it’s primarily male and proud of it, but that doesn’t mean we’re chads, far from it. As for intelligent, browsing this place for too long will genuinely lower yours. This place is good for moderate discussion and quick recs but spend a month on here and you’ll find your ability to properly converse will be completely destroyed. The “quasi fascism” is just because of post 2016 politics. While I’d argue they’re not better than us, it’s not by a lot. /lit/ users aren’t hyper masculine alpha males with dicks that slap their ankles, and browsing it won’t make you that either. The true chads are those that don’t waste their time with either.

>a perfectly well-reasoned argument
its not though, the person argued that the list of favorite books is invalid because it doesn't include "important works for understanding why they\se great books are special" which doesn't make a single fucking shred of sense because we are talking about a list of favorite books not a reading list for understanding literature as an artform. its not even an argument for this context, let alone a "well reasoned" one

Here's your (You). Top 100 lists never were reading lists or syllabi. They have never claimed to be. If you are using them for that purpose, that is your problem. What that Twitter user said was not "well-reasoned" at all, it was plain arrogant posturing. He clearly began it as an attempted dismissal of this board's taste (hence the statement "this list is indeed bad" -- "this" list, not all top 100 lists), but then shifted his argument mid-tweet to something generally applicable to all top 100 lists, probably without even recognising it himself because he's such an ignorant pseud. If he had posted that here he would've been torn to shreds for his pseud faggotry immediately.
