Reasonable critiques exist for any book like this, one cannot expect a complete and correct picture of the world in a 300 page book -- especially in an emerging and complex field. However it is true that books with taboo theses are singled out for disproportionate and selective criticism which less inflammatory but equally mendacious titles do not receive. In the same way leftists ought to be more open-minded about the merits of Murray and Herrnstein's argument, one should be open-minded about possible criticisms of the book as well. One should be careful not to become a (premature) devotee, as much as one should be careful not to disregard ideas which one finds distasteful.

The biggest and most well known critique of the book: the mismeasure of man, is more like a historical book intended to give the very slightest doubt that the observed differences in races might POSSIBLY be environmental. This is the canonical refutation. I read it. It's full of rhetorical flourish and high-minded language, yet contains little of substance by unit mass. As is typical of (((Gould))).

It's now common knowledge (((Gould))) falsified his work. Especially poignant is the skull on the cover. It's an allusion to the 19th century work of Samuel George Morton, measuring cranial capacity of skulls of different races. (((Gould))) repeated his measurments and announced that morton was wrong, and on average there's no difference. This was an outright lie and even his supporters turned on him when they found out.


As a personal note, when I was in high school in the 90s, (((Gould))) was extended an invitation to speak at our school, which he accepted. We paid for his hotel and put a lot of effort into preparing for his talk. I was student council president and put at least 8 hours of work into setting up for him.

On the appointed hour he just didn't arrive. He never explained. He never answered our calls. He never apologized. That's the kind of sociopathic kike he is.
