Well, English has just... won. It's the language of commerce, of diplomacy, of American pop culture (along with Spanglish I suppose), etc. English loanwords have seeped into practically every language. Three of the countries which will be in the top 10 population wise (India, Nigeria, USA) in 2100 have English as an official language. It just seems quaint, I guess, to use another language if you're writing about politics. (Art/cultural projects are different of course).
