OK thank you! After Descartes (I kind of don't want to read him, but I really have to. Oh well...) I'll be reading Kant throughout the year.

Its not a fun read. The work is there but this guy could not write for shit. The structure of it all is horrible

Imho the prologomena is harder. The terminology is the same, and everything is five times as condensed. As a clarification it's evidently a failure (wlthough it is a very helpful summary for those who have already read the first critique)

Dont jump from Descartes to Kant. Read Hume first, and maybe read some secondary literature on Leibniz (like, read a few chapters dedicated to him on some textbooks on history of philosophy). Hume especially is extremely accessible, he requires virtually no background to be understood. Locke would help too (his Essays), and he's also very accessible.

Or if you're lazy, pick 2-3 decent textbooks on history of philosophy and read the sections from Descartes to Kant. A lack of historical background is very often the biggest barrier (alongside ignorance regarding terminology) to understanding Kant
