Other tales are good for either being well told having fun details (like the invention of fishnet outfits for women). The poetry can be imaginative as well, like the dialog of the body and the soul which gives us "death is before me" as stolen by Neal Gaimon for The Sand Man Chronicles.

Forget about the Book Of The Dead. Boring and requires a background in Egyptian history.

If only that were true. I live in a middle eastern country with a king. The entire country is ruled by corporate families and he and all his predecessors did fuck all about it, in fact, they were in on it big time, as the (massive) royal family themselves are greedy merchant faggots protected by the law, the army, and their myriad of snakes they got in the pocket. If the king is shit, the entire kingdom will go to shit, no two-ways about it. If the king is a good, then it still won't be enough, because his goodness won't be enough to hold off corruption from his own family, and monarchies tend to have giant families who receive tons of (but not all) protections and privileges that the king does.
Just look at what happened with King Faisal in Saudi Arabia. That guy was a class act and a man of truly good heart, but his siblings, sons, cousins, distant relatives, etc. were made up of trash in the form of bipedal baboons. And to this day Saudi has not had one goddamn decent king since, and they just keep getting worse.

The propaganda of literature is often divorced from the reality of the society. The Eloquent Peasant is meant to address rulers, much like the Tao of China, in the hopes that THEY rule wisely and fairly, with the story as moral to draw upon.
