Thats not at all what happened. John bender's character had a completely different background and arc. The way he presented himself was in an entirely different way for an entirely different reason. He needed a different justification to make himself finally feel accepted. Allison hid herself in the back and tried to be invisible, which she as for almost the whole movie. John's character basically led the plot. He was the low status guy trying to prove himself the high status girl.
I really don't get how such a simple movie is so hard to get.
