>You think the average Roman pleb spoke Classical Latin with the correct grammar and syntax?

Young, adults and olds didn't spoke correct classical latin. Only patricians. Seek for a better example.
The core of this issue is the fact that people knew how to speak in a more refined manenr when it was necessary and they also knew how to writ properly. However, nowadays, not only zoomers speak horribly, but also an important portion of adults. And what is most concerning is that they can not speak properly when needed, nor write. Therefore, the language is decreasing. People don't respect their own language and that is not only a proof of linguistical change (a natural process, like the formation of romance languages) but a decrease in the vigour of the language itself.
It's not like we have a whole differente language for the elite and the intelectual class (like in fact happen'd in Rome) but the same language is used by the whole native population, but only a minimum part of it can speak it properly.

>what is most concerning is that they can not speak properly when needed, nor write. Therefore, the language is decreasing.
What evidence do you have that zoomers CAN'T speak or write properly when needed? They all go to school and have to write longform essays in formal English, just like everyone else. Compared to previous generations they actually spend much more of their free time reading text and articles for entertainment; I'd hazard a guess that zoomers and millennials read much more than any previous generation in history, at least in terms of sheer volume.
Furthermore, what about slang or zoomerisms do you perceive as actually detracting from the language? I don't know of any evidence that they have smaller vocabularies in absolute terms. Objectively speaking, the language isn't deteriorated by the invention of "bussin" to mean "very good" as it's just an additional word that refers to an existing idea. Even if we lost the word "good" entirely, and it were completely replaced by "bussin," the language wouldn't be any worse off. Zoomers don't have any reduced capacity to discuss the same ideas compared to anyone else, and they haven't done away with any necessary parts of speech that reduce specificity in any context. If anything, the introduction of new words that refer to more complex or subtle cultural ideas as a linguistic shorthand makes the language more efficient.

>I'd hazard a guess that zoomers and millennials read much more than any previous generation in history, at least in terms of sheer volume

Exactly my point. They are probably the most well read generation of history but they can't express themselves in a proper way. Why do you reckon memes are so massive? And I'm not speaking about reaction images, I'm talking about simple phrases that try to convey only emotions, but no ideas or thoughts what so ever. Furthermore, they prefer to speak with pre-assembled catch phrases that "express their current emotions" instead of trying to elaborate a coherent speech with the volume of words they know as natives and as well "cultured" generation.
The only "formal" way they can express themselves is in "college essay rigmarole". And that, anon, is not a proper way to use a language.
A great proportions of zoomers can't have a real conversation with a proper use of English. Sure, they can be smart and understand the topic and follow up, but I assure you, most of them can't find words that English has for a certain concept, idea, feeling, emotion or article of reality. It's not about changing the word "good" with "bussin", is about the capacity to have a dominion over your native language.

Instead, they conceptualize languages as part of their identitys (in part is true), but language is not identity, is a tool to communicate and to objectify your thoughts in the world.

>If anything, the introduction of new words that refer to more complex or subtle cultural ideas as a linguistic shorthand makes the language more efficient
That's exactly my point! But zoomers aren't doing this exclusively. Sure, they can have slang or new words for new concepts or realities. But the use of language as an ideological object, to portray "identity", "sex", "gender" and the whole catalog of postmodern shit is not helping the language, quite the contrary

I don't deny any of this, but in my experience it's also true of most humans generally. Most people are not very intelligent and don't put much stock into speaking eloquently or with determination. They also don't have much they need to communicate in the first place since most people's primary concerns in adult life revolve around work, sex, their hobbies, and consuming entertainment media. Only a small percentage of people have ever been interested in philosophy, high art, and literature. There's a boomer dive bar in my town that I sometimes hang out in while my clothes are at the laundromat next door, and I will assure you, the level of conversation in there doesn't rise to your standard, neither in content nor linguistically. I believe that zoomers just take the brunt of this critique because their use of odd slang is more immediately noticeable and jarring. They're also young kids and you have to factor immaturity and inexperience into the equation. We can really only wonder at how previous generations sounded when they were kids, unless you're old enough to remember. But I find that most actually-old people seem to take more issue with ebonic slang versions of regular words like I mentioned in my previous post, rather than making any more meaningful critiques about the intellectual content or linguistic dominion that you're referring to.

>But the use of language as an ideological object, to portray "identity", "sex", "gender" and the whole catalog of postmodern shit is not helping the language, quite the contrary
Fully agree, but I find this to be slightly tangential. I would also note that I don't really blame zoomers for coming up with that stuff, it originates with boomer and Xer Marxist professors after all

they use lower case "i" because they came of age alongside the iPod and iPhone and have been entirely consumed by the unconscious idea that the I is a secondary and subsidiary component to an electronic consumer good. social media, which they also were raised in, reinforces this. they type that because they literally cannot separate the I from the phone without truncating it.

I unironically believe this. Certainly, slang and the like has its place, and I admit I freely use it, all the time. But a culture that is not autistic about its language is a decaying one. A vibrant culture is one which is suspicious of neologisms and purges loan-words (which are far worse) as much as possible, at least in a written context. It is why I consider the French and Turkish cultures to be the most healthy of the European ones. They are strict in this.
