Work makes me feel lobotomized. I feel like a slave and i cant tap out of the wagie mindset wherever i go. It's getting to the point where reading feels like a chore because i know i'll have to check in again soon so i just waste my time shitposting. This is horrible, hellish even. I wish i had the balls to be like Diogenes and live in a jar.

I’m quitting and I’m going to live out of my truck. It’s very old but it’s paid off and big enough. So all I’ll need to pay for is gas and food, which I’ll get from McDonald’s and Wal-Mart probably. I might not even pay for those to be honest since I have a parent with an attic apartment who’s offered to let me stay there rent-free. No idea what I’m going to end up doing but I’m not going to keep doing this.

No clue, but i'm only 23 and i know i am not doing this for the rest of my life.
I will kill myself if i have to live like this as life is just a waste at that point. Think about it, you are working 8 hours a day for 5 days a week. It's actually more like 9-10 hours a day when factoring in commute time and getting ready.

Then you will probably only spend 3-4 hours with family when you come home if any at all. If you have kids you probably wont see them as they have school shit.

And you will do all this until your mid to late 60s if you are lucky. Even then you will have tonnes of health problems and don't have a life anymore.

Just got promoted, I'm making 121k base now with 10% annual bonus and an extra 15% in company stocks. Software support engineer. I'm sorry for the anons who did not make it, but if you're still in high school, listen to me and DO NOT MAJOR IN SOMETHING YOU'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT. MAJOR IN SOMETHING THAT MAKES MONEY EVEN IF IT'S HARD AND YOU DON'T LIKE IT. Hobbies are for passion, work is for MONEY. College is only 4 years, that's nothing compared to a lifetime of misery wageslaving at a shit job that mentally drains you and prevents you from even enjoying your hobbies because you have no free time and no money. College was hard for me and I did not like it, but guess what? I'm only 26 and I don't even remember that shit anymore. I have at least 50 years ahead of me to enjoy having more money and free time than I know what to do with. My friends all majored in languages and other stupid shit, like idiots, even though I'm dumber than them they're still living in cramped apartments filled up with roommates and budgeting their grocery money. I spend hours every day reading and exercising and will buy a house soon. If you're a high schooler about to go to college and major in English or philosophy, take 5 minutes to think about this post before you ruin your life, please. I care about you.

Working with your brain is overrated. It's hellish being forced to think through something that you aren't interested in, 8 hours a day, with the threat of losing your income hanging over your head. The breaking point for me was seeing a video while scrolling through facebook, it was one of those craft videos, where the person was wrapping a wire into a clip (see pic). I got fucking _angry_ because I knew if I sat down and concentrated I could understand how the wrapping worked, but I was enraged because it felt like an external force was forcing me to think, just like at work. Ended up quitting my job a couple months after that.

I'm switching to a trade so I no longer have to think as hard, and can get at least more fit than sitting on my ass all day.

I used to feel that way when I did a very monotonous mental job. I was a "data analyst" for a marketing agency, but it was basically just glorified excel work that a monkey could do. It used to hurt my brain trying to focus on that boring shit all day, even got myself a prescription for vyvanse just to deal with it. Eventually I quit and got a more creative mental job in software. Now I think harder but it's a lot more fun and interesting, and I have no problem focusing on work all day. It's actually like getting to do fun puzzles all day. As counterproductive as it might seem, getting a job that is harder may actually be much less stressful because it keeps you more interested and stimulated in the work.
