I want to read Dumezil. Mostly out of a general interest in the trifunctional hypothesis. Does anyone have knowledge on where to start, any works to read before? What translations exists? I can read English or Swedia/Norwegian/Danish.

Is Dumezil the best for studies of indo-european caste systems in general?

I never realised that the word 'outcast' comes from out-cast, ie outside of the cast system. i feel like a retard.

Neat. I love having etymologies like that just click in my head after years or decades of using the word regularly without thinking about it. Good feeling.

>>18738017
Well it's not. Out-cast is from old English, where 'cast' literally means throw. So it's basically 'thrown out'.

And why does Dumezil name his books so weirdly "The Destiny of a King"? What?

>Dumezil
Why?

>> No.18739818

>>18739662
Because Dumezil is the god-king of Indo-European* studies.

*Victors newspeak for Aryan

Because they're comparative mythologies collected around a theme, like kingship or warriorhood etc.
