Anyone on here been able to teach themselves Latin to a decent standard? Also, is pic related a good resource?

I thought about doing it, but other languages are probably more worth it. You can definitely learn a language on your own, there are lots of audios on youtube, you probably want to listen to them while reading, because I'm assuming you will be reading poetry, right?

I taught myself well enough to read most authors pretty much fluently a few years back but my skills have deteriorated since I turned my attention to other things. I tried reading some Livy the other day and while I could manage it I was still no where near as good as I used to be, feels bad man. It's possible but language skills require maintenance.

Nice b8m8. You're going to ask people shitting on picrel and recommending LLPSI instead to demonstrate their "decent standard" . High IQ post, low IQ purpose, but nice job anyways.

I think Latin is a worthwhile subject to learn. It's incredibly satisfying to read Latin once you've fully grasped and internalized it. Unfortunately most people never get past the intermediate stage where the language is more like a tedious puzzle than anything else and so never get to experience that. It also enriches your knowledge of Romance languages and makes it easier to learn them too. In fact, any IE language is made significantly easier if you know Latin.

I pronounce Latin poetry out loud phonetically and try to piece together the words from side by side translations.
