thread got nuked but can someone give a meaningful answer to this post? it seems like the only people who care to answer are consoomers who are triggered that they may miss out on free shit

I genuinely do not understand why anyone would keep a youtube channel [talking about making shit for the public in general] for the sake of "being out there" and nothing else, I do not believe that consciously or subconsciously you'd do it for no reason but that.
>fuck off [...] the more thousands of creative people we bury, the more we'll erase the occasional two or three insightful voices
>This mindset would literally kill the arts off and everybody would stop making anything
All these people earned a comfortable living as "intellectuals" and they were talking to a receptive audience anyway, so even if their work was not for the sake of profit, it would be received by people who certainly engaged with it and appreciated it. There is nothing in history that was remotely similar to working on something that addressed a public that did not exist, except maybe doomsayers and other madmen talking to themselves at street corners.
I think the mindset that is killing the arts is that creative people are supposed to sacrifice time, money and energy to the wind, then waste more time, money and energy "promoting themselves" (why would you publish something if it can't reach anyone), all at a loss, just because not doing so would "kill the arts". All while 50 Shades becomes the all time top selling book in the UK [..] and people win awards for being minorities, and gallery curators get fired for saying that "they will still feature white people".
I just don't get what the fuck is the point of producing anything when there's a 99% chance that there will never be a public, except maybe a couple people who'll say "ty for the new chapter" or some shit. Everyone is an island, you won't have colleagues unless you are part of a political club. There is nothing in this activity that I see as enriching of one's life, I only see the worth of this in the eyes of the consumer who's just like "hey free content" and adds cuck#234234's shit to his content hoard, just in case, but he'll never read it because he's too busy jacking off to hentai.
I'm not saying this to dissuade people, actually I want to be proven wrong in some way except false statements like "ancient people did this shit for free", no they didn't the context was entirely different, or "but this would kill the ARTS" when the reason why they're dying is that nobody cares except when "creatives" decide to give up, then they get called quitters. It's all so weird and hypocritical, like you're asking others to throw themselves off a cliff with wax wings, excepting to crash to their deaths, all because if by any chance you actually took off, then the crowd of kids watching the worm-eaters might look up and clap for a second and 1 every 1000 of them might give you a compliment.
I don't get it man.

By "all these people" I meant
>I mean do you view authors and philosophers negatively then, because they tried to get their ideas out there past just talking in person at a book club by writing books for a larger audience.
Hoping that I won't just get incoherent rage as always

>> No.18736345

If you write books and print them in a physical form, you will eventually find an audience because people are going to turn back towards local goods soon.

Are you the guy who spams his book here?
Either way I strongly disagree with this idea, I think this paradigm will get worse and worse. Do you have some data confirming a change in trends that way? An example I have found is a document about the game industry (I know, it's still media). When projects fail a "post-mortem" is written. While basically all issues (management, internal tensions, technical difficulties, etc.) have decreased dramatically, over the last 20 years it was marketing issues that murdered projects the hardest. This is the same reason at the base of otaku pandering in anime. Books are not any different. Again, this is where consoomers will either reply "I don't give a shit I only read 1000 year old philosophical treatises" or "b-but you have to cuck yourself and make things for free so I can hoard them and never ever say a fucking thank you" or the classic "whatever you make is probably shit so it doesn't matter" but nobody who actually makes "content" seems to have a word on this outside of hopeless schizos.

I think it is going to be easy to sell a book based on something many people are frustrated by, and right now, crime and drugs are out-of-control in Vancouver.

My book is a somewhat dark comedy about bike theft, vigilantism, blackmail and hidden agendas...

I write because, whether I ultimately do or don't, I can't stop myself from thinking about it. Either about my own stories, or the ways in which I would have done something differently that I've read.
if I don't write I will be living inside my own thoughts so, even if no one reads them, it's the most effective way to empty my head of otherwise irrelevent and esoteric ideas and put them into a tangible form where at least I know they exist for the larger world.

You literally made it a couple of chapters right before everything kicks off and the blackmail begins. The character that blackmails him is very believable from a modern day point of view.

After the drinking buddy part, those characters don't play much of a role in the novel as Ken quickly goes down a rabbit hole of lies, covering his tracks, and trying not to lose everything.

I just must, at this point. It has become my life's purpose and knowing it has brought great peace of mind. Knowing your purpose in life is something very precious. I don't want to do anything else because nothing else brings me joy. Even my newborn daughter, which I of course love beyond everything I've loved before, has made this last year pretty terrible, for I haven't been able to write as much due to tiredness and sleep deprivation. I would abandon writing for her, but I would never again be happy.

If you didn't milk a cow, it would hurt the cow. But if you don't pluck fruit from the trees, the birds will eat them. I just write like a tree growing fruits; if men do not eat them, birds will. If not birds, then worms. If not worms, then bacteria.
