How do you make peace with the fear that the book you've been pouring your heart and soul into might be widely mocked and reviled once it's finished?

I had a good time making it. Perhaps human audiences won't like it, but a supernatural audience will.

i want that rather than nobody talking about it, every type of recognition is ok as long as people talk about your work

That's a pretty grim notion, why do you think so? If I created my magnum opus, I would love for the world to read it.

You are a brave anon. I honestly wouldn't even share it on /lit/ or whatever. Considering that it is a magnum opus. If it is some shit, whatever.

Because you do realize that for something to be great it isn't some milquetoast shit, right? And that putting your name on something like that will make people feel like they have the right to bother you for whatever reason.

Hey thanks. I don't really think of it as bravery, more like pride in this thing I'm making.
>>18733142
Of course not, I would never put out something I myself would not find joy in reading, why would I inflict the world with something not even I could find joy in? Also I don't mind discussing the book naturally, but I'd be very careful about discussing the story itself, because I want my readers to have the freedom for eisegesis.

Simple jealousy probably. Gardener is some rich eccentric NEET who just writes his books and advertises to /lit/. Basically what all aspiring authors here wish their lives were like. Rather than be happy for him some just become bitter.

My magnum opus has been read by multiple people and I've gotten almost entirely positive responses. I know it's not just me, I know people like it. I'm just trying to figure out how to get it out into the world right now, in a way that will ensure it gets the maximum number of eyeballs on it.

Obviously. Waldun is just kind of a joke. I’ve seen people defend F. Gardner’s books for the twist endings. I have never seen someone defend The Learned Disguise. Schizo books are at least fun. No one wants to read a boring Waldun book. Those threads do nothing but mock him because of his ridiculous Youtuber persona.

I did that and posted screenshots here and was ridiculed. It's not that bad.

This. Waldun is dull if you really read him. I’ve noticed anons starting to embrace Gardner ever since he released new books. I think it’s a matter of Waldun being an outsider vs Gardner actually being a /lit/izen.

If your work is mediocre then likely no one will read it in the future so no reason to stress about any temporary negative notoriety.. Also think about how few people read today. Now even of those that do read, there are likely thousands of obscure authors from the past that many readers know nothing about. Or of the many books that have been lost to history by pure chance. Take refuge in the knowledge that nothing lasts.

By thinking of it as something collective. That the book your making is something that you don’t own but has its own agency. That’s what we’re thought to do in architecture school when it comes to projects Your never suppose to say “my project” because the project is its own entity. Once you separate yourself from your project it’s a lot easier to take criticism and to fix things that need fixing.
