Plato's Euthyphro unironically reads like Potion Seller. I can just imagine Euthyphro setthing through the tears as Plato absolutely dominates him in conversation. Somebody should recreate that video with their dialogue.

Euthyphro is an inspired work that indicates the truth of monotheism. Only people who've read it won't be confused by this statement.

From the Euthyphro dilemma Wikipedia page:
>Wittgenstein said that of "the two interpretations of the Essence of the Good", that which holds that "the Good is good, in virtue of the fact that God wills it" is "the deeper", while that which holds that "God wills the good, because it is good" is "the shallow, rationalistic one, in that it behaves 'as though' that which is good could be given some further foundation".
I personally see the first as the more irrational Kierkegaardian view, whereas the latter is more rationalistic and Hegelian. I'm siding with Euthyphro on this one.

Isn't there a dialogue called Euthydemus as well?

>> No.18721057

Yeah I just read it this morning. Euthydemus and his brother Dionysodoros are sophists who try and dazzle Socrates and the gang with some linguistic magic. Using verbal trickery, they're able to demonstrate all sorts of nonsense (e.g. "if you know one thing, then you know everything"). I only wish Wittgenstein could've been there to hear their sophistry. All their magic is made possible by blurring the lines between object language and metalanguage. He would've caught that shit in a second and shut it down!
