Butters is correct here. The vanguard of architecture going to hell was speed of information transfer. By the time advertisements were tolerated the decline was in full force. When the first billboard was raised the death blow was dealt. If the populace could tolerate the obscene ugliness of an advertisement without whipping into a frenzy and tearing it down they had lost all taste entirely. From this apathetic soil the rational driven function over form cult takes root and obliterates all beauty.
