Are there any good books that discuss how insane it is to be alive, and how humans use all the dulling efforts they can possibly muster to blind their perception of the unbearable radiance of life? The colossal energies in keeping us alive, the fact that our bodies simply operate without our express consent, the fact that none of us know why we're here, how we're here, and if intelligence arises out of an intelligent universe or not is enough to blow out the capacitors of anyone's sanity as it were. But you don't think of that when enjoying a cup of coffee listening to jazz over the radio.
tl;dr are there any good books that discuss ego as a frail but essential coping mechanism for simply being alive?
