But that's not the point of that story, anon. He catches the fish, and the sharks eat it while he has it strapped to the mast. :3

In fact, the crosslike shape of the fish's bare skeleton after the sharks ate it was part of the entire beautiful allegory.

The old man died knowing he caught the fish, and brought it back.

It's a bittersweet goodbye, but not entirely sad. Please re-read the Old Man and the Sea :3

idk maybe it's an allegory for life and like accomplishments of life and even though you can't take them with you when you die, others can still recognize them and what you've done even when you're a skeleton and all your flesh has rotted away
