Since this board won't STFU about him.

Just read GR. I wouldn't love him nearly as much if I'd had read anything else first.

How would you know?

Just string a bunch of words together to make barely legible sentences then reference pop psych every so often, same experience as GR

Not crying of lot 49. It's not very good. It's his weakest of his first 4 novels - the novels of his i've finished.
Gravity's rainbow is a ton of fun id you dont have a stick up your ass. Second read was even better

>Mason & Dixon (1997)
You shouldn't, he's a gateway to alt-right sympathizers. The memery is mostly a cope.

I started with Mason & Dixon, but the 18th century English orthography apparently tends to bamboozle people. His easiest and most readily entertaining novel is probably Inherent Vice, if you're looking for ease of access.

Lot 49 is a digestible entry point but really doesn't give you an idea of what it's like to read his longer works. Just power through GR. If you dislike it but want to give him another chance go for mason and dixon

I would recommend reading in chronological order. All of his books are worth reading.

Honestly you have 2 options.

V. or Lot 49.

Lot 49 is short and it's where I started and it worked. I fell in love. But I only fell in love around halfway through the 150ish page novel. But from there I read V. which is one of my favorites and then went to GR which is my favorite book of all time next to Ulysses and Goethe's Faust.

So I'd say read 49 through to the end and see if it hits the right nerves. If it doesn't, I don't think V. or GR will.

Fun fact, in Ulysses an auction cries lots 4 and 9. Coincidence?

Also in GR, Sir *Stephen* Dodson-Truck's wife's name was Nora.

Idk, but... you should ask Bill Murray
