Seems like a good way to work on character development which can be used with other forms of writing.

Unfortunately when I search for modern day plays they often focus on 'intersectionality' and look more like shoehorning a political ideal instead of creating a work of art.

Has anyone here written a play? It is a shame such a beautiful vehicle for beauty has been coopted by crazies at the wheel. I guess I'll have to be OK knowing the play won't happen unless I fund it myself.

Art, literature, etc. has just become a form of political corruption for lefty demagogues.
Look at the grant requirements for any given cultural institution. Its all based on things like hiring "diversity consultants" and platforming "trans BIPOC voices".
Follow the money to the top and its purely a quid-pro-quo program for handing out favours to the right political actors on behalf of left wing politicians. Aristocratic patrons have died out with the landed estate and whatever sense of communal good or nobles oblige the west used to have has been dead for a long time now
Only true act of art possible in this climate would be to shoot up an Ivy League school or something.

no one is just creative enough. plays can still be popular, just look at Kenneth Branagh's Henry V. That's one of the few successes where a commoner can actually enjoy Shakespeare

There also is more money to be made in television and movies for good writers relative to playwriting (even if they are all low pay anyway) so playwriting may be relegated to more of a hobby than other types of writing.

I think it's more important for someone to build a 'brand' in ANYTHING (with money, success in sports, etc.) and then publish writing because by then you have an audience.

Have you tried applying for grants before?
A significant amount of it is just quid-pro-quo political corruption under the disguise of 'diversity'. I'm talking tens of millions of dollars being handed out to organizations that "promote online diversity" and crap like that, and I don't see it going to conservative Sunni mosques either. Mostly going to LGBTQ+ organizations where you can guess pretty easily what political lines they vote along.
>political illiterate
Quite the opposite. I'm painfully aware of how these policies impact society and my personal life. Thats why I hate to see such levels of political corruption taking in my place in my country.
