I have a friend who, after getting diagnosed with asperger in high school, went from "kinda weird sometimes" to "full sheldon bazinga" in a few weeks. Something like the girl in the video, but more pretentious. Only at his early twenties he "renormalized".

My sister is in her 20s and is now identifying as autistic. It's exactly like you say. Little quirks she had are now completely justified, she will have these quirks forever and they cannot be changed because autism, everyone else but her needs to change in order to suit her quirks, etc etc etc.

Autism didn't exist at all until 50 or something years ago. We shouldn't act as if the same people who created the atom bomb just didn't know what autism was, it either:
1. wasn't a problem and no one noticed;
2. did not exist.
I'm temped to say it's a mixture of the two. Low functioning autism was just retardation, high functioning autism is purely a creation of modern psychiatry. We take a set of random characteristics of some people that don't work well for our current society and by labelling them, we create a category that make those traits even more pronounced. Autism awareness literally creates autism.
Identity-culture just intensifies it to the next level. Now the pathological becomes cool.
The same is valid for ADHD, OCD, etc. There is depression (melancholy/hysteria) and retardation. Everything else is a pure fantasy. The DSM-5 is just a buzzfeed quiz that people take serious. There is probably some underlying reality, but they are mapping it to a list of pure fiction.

ADHD as a thing that preceded modern psychiatry is a fantasy, though.
Like, I can say that car crashes are real, but they are not an inherent characteristic of human motor capacities.
I'm not criticising people who "have" this conditions, I'm criticising the fetishisation of them.
Epistemologically, there is no such thing as ADHD. Phenomenologically, there is.
