Textbook, anon. Get one. I got an old edition of r The Norton Introductiont to Literature on abebooks for $4. Which is probably an ok price to you.

Not op, but any idea on how the new and old ones differ? How has the textbook helped you as an ESL?
There's a fourth edition that I can buy online in my country, for about $35. Should I grab it or just read from a 13th edition pdf? Thanks in advance anon.

Really? You can just directly start with Shakespeare?

Got the ninth edition and it seemed similar to the 13th edition, again the 13th edition is probably better than the old one. Haven't got really far into it yet, but considering that I read the first chapter of the 13th and the point I'm in the 9th, it is probably significant. Still it is better than nothing, anon. Just saying, I bought this one because the pdf doesn't work nicely with a kindle and I got this edition for $4 on abebooks ($13 considering the shipping costs). You could check this edition online on archive.

And considering what I gained from it, I haven't learned a lot from it, but I'm still on the first part. Considering that there are lots of texts and assignments, it is probably worth it as a native or ESL. This is probably what I would look on this edition that you might buy. Check out if there are exercises, they are usually at the end of each text. And the 13th edition definitely does a better job on explaining them (compared to the ninth). I think it is definitely worth checking out the pdf. And maybe buying the paper edition if you feel that reading the pdf is too cumbersome.

And I probably have a lot to learn in the poetry and drama sections. Those are the things that I'm somewhat clueless even on my native language. But other than that, it seems to be mainly a way of analyzing literature with examples and assignments in English, I bought it because it was cheap and I'm curious about it. And I thought it would be a nice way to step up my knowledge of the English language.

Ok thank you my friend, I will check out the pdf for now. If I like the format or find that I need this kind of book, I will buy the printed one (if they still have them for sale). I will research more on how the fourth edition differs from the latest ones. The older editions have Bain, Beaty, and Hunter as their authors/editors while the new one has Mays. Mays looks like a Karen so I might prefer the older ones, but idk.

Anyways, I hope you learn a lot from the book anon. It was probably a good purchase for the price.

Should've included Hemingway, Poe, Twain, Steinbeck, Whitman, and Faulkner. There are other greats as well, but these would be found on any list in addition to the ones you gave.

Wasn't really a serious list, I was just in an autistic list making mood. If you read something of each it would give a broad overview though.
