Write whatever you feel like, Anon. A short story, a character introduction, your thoughts, or any kind of ideas you have had.

I was upset earlier, but after imagining myself exercising and then doing some chin-ups, I felt much better. Exercise is wonderful.
I heard that Roman patricians like Julius Caesar exercised every single day from the time they were young. Does anyone know what routines they did, and how much strength, speed, and endurance the average Roman patrician had built up by the age of 30?

Good old women are the most based people possible.
Bad old women are the biggest, most vile and useless pieces of shit.
I wish it was easier to tell them apart but they all look alike on the surface.

Every woman I have ever had any affection for outside my family just want me to fuck them. Every time I tried to talk to them as anything other than a sexual object they started hating me. Why can't I be in love with you? Why can't I be in love with you AND fuck you? I want to do it that way, not the other way around. I refuse to fuck you until we've been in love for at least a week.

This is something I was working on, I only started writing this year so critisim is welcome.

The hedera ivy could be seen clawing its way up the hardwood tree. Sinking its parasitic tendrils into the wood, covering the base in a sickening green blanket of leaves, and instinctively groping upwards towards the sun. In a couple months time, one would have trouble even seeing the bark of the poor tree. Not that anyone would look. To most passersby, the ivy will just look like a tasteless overcoat, but in reality, more akin to a straight jacket or even a living noose. For the hedera will strangle out the tree’s nutrients and water until death. Of course, the hardwood may, fortunately, survive as a crippled victim. However, equally likely, the added weight of the vines could cause the tree to crash down dramatically in the next storm it endures. If that happens people will futilely wonder how a tree standing so tall could fall so hard. Oh if only they noticed the vines but people moving so fast hardly have time to witness a murder so slow. I would be doubtful they even notice the ivy as the tree lay before them dead. Who can blame them though? It's not like the tree could vocalize its pain. To them, it always stood just like the rest of its brothers. To them, the ivy is as equally part of the tree as its leaves. Truly the only ones that would notice the tragedy are the hardwood’s healthy brothers. However, they can only offer condolences as their fixed branches can never reach down to help.

What does Plato have to say about this? Doesnt Plato think animals all have their own ideal form or whatever? Seems to be contrary to the way the idea appeared to me where they're all just mutated humans

Personally I think you're showing all your cards in the first paragraph. It's not bad, I just think it should be broken up. Can this metaphor be shown piece by piece to acknowledge the progression of the parasite? Can characters notice it a little at a time to come to understand that the threat is real?

That might be a smarter way to incorperate the metaphor novel. I originally planned to just have it as a tone setter but having the tree with vines on it be a reflection of the town could be better. Thanks for the advice.

It's either in Phaedo or Crito (reasonably short dialogues). He talks about how certain men and women with certain proclivities become certain animals after their death, depending on their actions in this life. Similar to Buddhism's rebirths except Plato guesses at which type of people become which animal. But yeah, his philosophy is more complicated than everything simply being or having a form. That would be closer to Aristotle.

Yeah, don't be so explicit with the parasite metaphor so early on. Also, I'd suggest actually specifying the kind of tree. Hardwood is non-specific but also feels somehow more "specialized" than if you just said hickory or whatever.

>> No.18647181

>>18647160
no problem, can I also suggest getting away from a 3rd person omniscient narrator to maybe 1st person? or maybe 3rd person but "camera centered" on each successive person? If you're going to go into microscopic detail its better if its "somebody's" microscopic detail as opposed to "your" microscopic detail. It's way more interesting if a character notices something tiny than if the all knowing narrator points it out to the audience.

I have been having trouble sleeping during these last 2 or 3 months, and my head aches all the time.

not a fan of some of the sentences, but the overall feel is effective. for instance,
>Of course, the hardwood may, fortunately, survive as a crippled victim.
weird that youre editorializing in the first half, it should have a clear transition to doing so starting around
>Oh if only they noticed
as if the narrator can no longer maintain his adjectival disparagement but otherwise detached description, and is bursting out in a more explicit lamentation.

just my 2cents, dont have any qualifications though.

------------ Exurbia Familiar -----------

Via charm
Or scent lush as fields
Planetary in August sweep

I prevail beyond belief,
The favorite every neighbor
Assumes the way prolific flora does--

Shining in the silence of ecstasy
Like imagined star clusters,
The gorgeous reality

Of horizon-spanning wheeled plateaux,
Hybrid playthings, technomusic,
Peace completely attained--

The fantastic sleep of lawn spectacles, cottonwood towers, cumulonimbus architecture--

Queen Ann's lace in bronze waves of accidental grain, forgetably dependable cars
Whispering by, as if nature meant

For us to live this well.
