Just how desperate for the company of two to three dozen kids do you think most teachers were?

>How could the schools just let the children sit around and... read? actually read books they wanted? Theyre in child prison... i mean... school to learn. What were they thinking? Capitalism really sucks guys.
Fuck yourselves. Book Clubs were better than school for keeping the interest of reading inside students minds and you all know it.

Schools probably helped fund their libraries through them. Back in the 80s we just had book fairs, the school got a certain amount of credit towards books for every book sold through the fair. I really loved those book fairs, they were held in the gym in the evening, we would go down to the school after supper and my parents would give me $10 to buy books with. For some reason those books were far more important to me than the ones I got from book stores. I can not remember any of the books I got from them but I have very clear memories of the fairs and tightly clutching my new books to my chest on the car ride home.

this was the highlight of the month. I'd spend hours circling and crossing out books. God, I loved that so much. Begging my dad to buy me my selection. When the teacher handed them out.
Fuuuuuuck. The only good thing about the American school system.
